LM185QML LM185QML Adjustable Micropower Voltage References Literature Number: SNVS386C LM185QML Adjustable Micropower Voltage References General Description The LM185 are micropower 3-terminal adjustable band-gap voltage reference diodes. Operating from 1.24 to 5.3V and over a 10A to 20mA current range, they feature exceptionally low dynamic impedance and good temperature stability. Onchip trimming is used to provide tight voltage tolerance. Since the LM185 band-gap reference uses only transistors and resistors, low noise and good long-term stability result. Careful design of the LM185 has made the device tolerant of capacitive loading, making it easy to use in almost any reference application. The wide dynamic operating range allows its use with widely varying supplies with excellent regulation. The extremely low power drain of the LM185 makes it useful for micropower circuitry. This voltage reference can be used to make portable meters, regulators or general purpose analog circuitry with battery life approaching shelf life. Further, the wide operating current allows it to replace older references with a tighter tolerance part. Features Adjustable from 1.24V to 5.30V Operating current of 10A to 20mA 1 dynamic impedance Low temperature coefficient Ordering Information NS Part Number SMD Part Number NS Package Number Package Description LM185BE/883 E20A 20LD Leadless Chip Carrier LM185BH/883 H03H 3LD; T0-46 Metal Can LM185BYH/883 H03H 3LD; T0-46 Metal Can 3LD; T0-46 Metal Can LM185BYH-SMD 5962-9091401MXA H03H LM185BWG/883 5962-9091402QYA WG10A 10LD Ceramic SOIC Connection Diagrams TO-46 Metal Can Package 20156301 Bottom View 20-Leadless Chip Carrier 20156315 Top View (c) 2008 National Semiconductor Corporation 201563 www.national.com LM185QML Adjustable Micropower Voltage Reference June 12, 2008 LM185QML 10-Lead Ceramic SOIC 20156303 Top View Block Diagram 20156313 Schematic Diagram 20156308 www.national.com 2 LM185QML Absolute Maximum Ratings (Note 1) Reverse Current Forward Current Operating Temperature Range 30mA 10mA -55C TA 125C -55C TA 150C 150C 300C Storage Temperature Maximum Junction Temperature TJmax Lead Temperature (soldering, 10 seconds) Thermal Resistance JA LCC Package (Still Air) LCC Package (500LF/Min Air flow) Metal Can Package (Still Air) Metal Can Package (500LF/Min Air flow) Ceramic SOIC Package (Still Air) Ceramic SOIC Package (500LF/Min Air flow) 100C/W 73C/W 300C/W 139C/W 194C/W 128C/W JC LCC Package Metal Can Package Ceramic SOIC Package Package Weight (Typical) LCC Package Metal Can Package Ceramic SOIC Package ESD Tolerance (Note 2) 25C/W 57C/W 23C/W TBD TBD 210mg 500V Quality Conformance Inspection Mil-Std-883, Method 5005 - Group A Subgroup Description 1 Static tests at 25 2 Static tests at 125 3 Static tests at -55 4 Dynamic tests at 25 5 Dynamic tests at 125 6 Dynamic tests at -55 7 Functional tests at 25 8A Functional tests at 125 8B Functional tests at -55 9 Switching tests at 25 10 Switching tests at 125 11 Switching tests at -55 12 Settling time at 25 13 Settling time at 125 14 Settling time at -55 3 Temp C www.national.com LM185QML LM185B Electrical Characteristics DC Parameters Symbol VRef Parameter Reference Voltage Conditions Notes IR = 100A Unit Subgroups 1.228 1.252 V 1 2, 3 Min Max 1.215 1.255 V IR = 9A 1.228 1.252 V 1 IR = 10A 1.215 1.255 V 2, 3 IR = 1mA 1.228 1.252 V 1 1.215 1.255 V 2, 3 1.228 1.252 V 1 1.215 1.255 V 2, 3 1.228 1.252 V 1 1.215 1.255 V 2, 3 VR = 5.3V, IR = 45A 1.288 1.252 V 1 VR = 5.3V, IR = 50A 1.215 1.255 V 2, 3 VR = 5.3V, IR = 1.0mA 1.288 1.252 V 1 1.215 1.255 V 2, 3 1.288 1.252 V 1 IR = 20mA VR = 5.3V, IR = 100A VR = 5.3V, IR = 20mA V 2, 3 Reference Voltage Change with 9A IR 1mA Current 10A IR 1mA 1.215 1.255 1.0 mV 1 1.5 mV 2, 3 1mA IR 20mA 10 mV 1 20 mV 2, 3 VR = 5.3V, 45A IR 1mA 1.0 mV 1 VR = 5.3V, 50A IR 1mA 1.5 mV 2, 3 VR = 5.3V, 1mA IR 20mA 10 mV 1 20 mV 2, 3 VRef / VO Reference Voltage Change with VR = 5.3V, IR = 100A Output Voltage 3.0 mV 1 6.0 mV 2, 3 IF IR = 9A 20 nA 1 IR = 10A 25 nA 2, 3 IR = 20mA 20 nA 1 2, 3 VRef/IR IC Feedback Current Minimum Operating Current 25 nA VR = 5.3V, IR = 45A 20 nA 1 VR = 5.3V, IR = 50A 25 nA 2, 3 VR = 5.3V, IR = 20mA 20 nA 1 25 nA 2, 3 (Note 3) 9.0 A 1 (Note 3) 10 A 2, 3 (Note 3) 45 A 1 (Note 3) 50 A 2, 3 VR = VRef VR = 5.3V www.national.com 4 DC Parameters Symbol VRef Parameter Reference Voltage Conditions Notes IR = 100A Unit Subgroups 1.228 1.252 V 1 2, 3 Min Max 1.215 1.255 V IR = 9A 1.228 1.252 V 1 IR = 10A 1.215 1.255 V 2, 3 IR = 1mA 1.228 1.252 V 1 1.215 1.255 V 2, 3 1.228 1.252 V 1 1.215 1.255 V 2, 3 1.228 1.252 V 1 1.215 1.255 V 2, 3 VR = 5.3V, IR = 45A 1.288 1.252 V 1 VR = 5.3V, IR = 50A 1.215 1.255 V 2, 3 VR = 5.3V, IR = 1.0mA 1.288 1.252 V 1 1.215 1.255 V 2, 3 1.288 1.252 V 1 IR = 20mA VR = 5.3V, IR = 100A VR = 5.3V, IR = 20mA V 2, 3 Reference Voltage Change with 9A IR 1mA Current 10A IR 1mA 1.215 1.255 1.0 mV 1 1.5 mV 2, 3 1mA IR 20mA 10 mV 1 20 mV 2, 3 VR = 5.3V, 45A IR 1mA 1.0 mV 1 VR = 5.3V, 50A IR 1mA 1.5 mV 2, 3 VR = 5.3V, 1mA IR 20mA 10 mV 1 20 mV 2, 3 VRef / VO Reference Voltage Change with VR = 5.3V, IR = 100A Output Voltage 3.0 mV 1 6.0 mV 2, 3 IF IR = 9A 20 nA 1 IR = 10A 25 nA 2, 3 IR = 20mA 20 nA 1 2, 3 VRef/IR Feedback Current IC Minimum Operating Current 25 nA VR = 5.3V, IR = 45A 20 nA 1 VR = 5.3V, IR = 50A 25 nA 2, 3 VR = 5.3V, IR = 20mA 20 nA 1 25 nA 2, 3 (Note 3) 9.0 A 1 (Note 3) 10 A 2, 3 (Note 3) 45 A 1 (Note 3) 50 A 2, 3 (Note 4) 50 PPM/C 1, 2, 3 VR = VRef VR = 5.3V TC Temperature Coefficient Note 1: Absolute Maximum Ratings indicate limits beyond which damage to the device may occur.
