VOLTAGE REGULATOR DESCRIPTION FEATURES The AMC78XX series of three terminal voltage regulator is designed for a wide range of applications with different fixed output voltages. One of these applications is local on card regulation, eliminating the distribution problems associated with single point regulation. Although designed primarily as fixed voltage regulators, these devices can be used with external components to obtain adjustable voltage and currents. ! ! ! ! ! # # Output current in excess of 1A No external components required High power dissipation capability Internal thermal overload protection Internal short-circuit current limiting Output transistor safe-area compensation Pin assignment identical to earlier LM78XX series. The internal current limiting and thermal shutdown features of these regulators make them essentially immune to overload.
